The political scene in Tamil Nadu is entering a new phase, as speculations are rife that AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala will take over the reins of the party and become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. However, there are many in the party who think that the current Chief Minister O Panneerselvam should continue in office, as he is doing a good job of leading the party and the State. O Panneerselvam has emerged as an effective leader and has received appreciation from various quarters including opposition leader and DMK working president MK Stalin. Eventually, the decision will be taken by the party’s MLAs, who will be meeting later today to discuss the emerging possibilities.
However, at this point of time, no one is willing to make an official statement. Senior leaders of AIADMK said that even if there’s a leadership change at the top level, it would be a smooth transition and there is no possibility of the party being split up or anything. The speculation over Sasikala becoming Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu began because the current party leadership has inducted several politicians who were earlier shunned by Jayalalithaa. Sources say that Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar could also be a reason, as Deepa has been in talks with certain MLAs to take over the leadership of AIADMK. Deepa had told earlier that the appointment of Sasikala as the legislative party leader would amount to a military coup.
