Allaying fears that BJP might impose a beef ban in Kerala too, BJP candidate N Sreeprakash, who is contesting in Mallapuram by-poll, said that if the party is voted to power, it will ensure a steady supply of beef and that too of good quality. It may be recalled that Kerala is among the few states in the country where there are no issues with the consumption of cow meat. Expressing his views, Sreeprakash said, “Within limits of law I will ensure clean slaughter houses and ensure beef,”
While talking to the media, Sreeprakash said, “Do Muslim brothers eat non-halal meat? They don’t eat…I will make sure halal meat is served. I will make sure that abattoirs are good, hygienic and serve halal meat.” He also assured everyone that slaughter houses will not be shut down in the state and it will be business as usual. Sreeprakash’s statements come in the wake of the recent decision taken by the BJP government in Gujarat, where punishment for cow slaughter has now been increased to life term prison sentence.
