The UP Chief Minister with the support of his cabinet has passed a resolution to cut down the number of public holidays in the state.
The CM has slashed 15 public holidays which were initiated to mark anniversaries of eminent personalities.
Most of these new holidays were initiated by the previous Akhilesh Yadav government to reach out to different communities by shutting down government offices and schools.
As of now, UP has 42 public holidays with 17 of them are meant to honour great personalities. The current UP government has slashed 15 of them.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath has made it very clear that he does not want to carry the burden to carry forward.
He also asked this ministers and officials to work for 18-20 hours every day .
CM said that If we want to perpetuate the memory of the famous personalities and inspire people, let us keep the schools open and spend two hours to teach children about these eminent personalities.
He also asked the officials to install bio-metric attendance machines at public offices in UP.
Cabinet Minister Shrikant Sharma, “The Cabinet has cancelled 15 public holidays marking the anniversaries of great personalities. Students will now be taught on these days about these figures through various programmes.”
Uttar Pradesh is the first government to have sliced off its list of holidays.
