This week witnessed a strange coincidence where two top teams (SL v Zim results are awaited) were defeated by a foreign team in their own home ground. Firstly, it was Zimbabwe which is touring Sri Lanka has pulled an upset win over Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe scored 356 runs in the first innings and Sri Lanka trailed it by 10 runs having scored 346.
In the second innings, Zimbabwe scored 377 with a brilliant 127 by S Raza. At one point they were struggling for 5-59 but thanks to Raza and other tail enders who scored a brilliant knock. Moor, Waller and Cremer scored 40,68 and 48 which saw Zimbabwe racing to a comfortable score in the end.
Needing 388 to win, Sri Lanka has lost 3 wickets for 170 runs and needs another 218 runs in the last day to emerge victorious.
On the other hand, South Africa which is touring England handed them a 340 run defeat. South Africa scored 335 runs in the first innings but England could manage a mere 205 only. In the second innings, South Africa declared it for 343-9. Needing a 473 to win, England began its second innings but none of the players could sustain for a long in the crease. Alastair Cook top scored with 42 followed by Ali, Stokes and Bairstow who scored 27,18 and 16 respectively. The remaining 7 batsmen could manage to score just a single digit and eventually they were all out for 133. For South Africa, Philander and Maharaj took 3 scalps each whereas Olivier and Morris took 2 wickets each.
