ZopNow – Company Profile

ZopNow is one of India’s leading groceries and daily needs delivery platform. The company was launched in 2011 and is headquartered in Bengaluru. ZopNow is a one-stop shop for groceries and daily essentials, as it offers customers to choose from more than 15,000 products across various categories such as fruits & vegetables, beverages, home & living, beauty & personal care, frozen foods, pet care, and school & office supplies. ZopNow has partnered with physical retail stores such as HyperCity and More, a strategic move that has enabled the company to improve service delivery. ZopNow currently serves customers in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Noida, Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

History:

The idea for ZopNow came when founder Mukesh Singh was standing in a queue at a grocery supermarket. The idea flashed in his mind that something could certainly be done to save people from the hassle of waiting in long lines at grocery supermarkets. The primary idea was followed by several rounds of discussions and brainstorming sessions, eventually making way for the launch of ZopNow online grocery delivery platform. ZopNow started operations as an inventory-keeping online retailer, but later shifted focus to building a technology intensive platform in 2014. Towards that end, it entered into partnership with grocery supermarket chains – HyperCity and More. In 2016, ZopNow helped HyperCity and More to launch their own branded apps for online retail.

Funding:

ZopNow has received total investment of around $12 million through two rounds of funding. Investors include Accel Partners, Dragoneer Investment Group, Qualcomm Ventures and Times Internet.

Acquisitions:

ZopNow has not made any acquisitions till date, but is open to any bankable opportunities that may become available in the future.

Competition:

ZopNow competes with other online grocery stores such as BigBasket, Grofers, and Naturesbasket. Leading e-commerce players such as Amazon India and Snapdeal have also started delivering groceries, which is creating tougher challenges for ZopNow.

About the Founders:

ZopNow was founded by Mukesh Singh, who now leads the technology operations of the company. He was earlier the CEO at ZopNow, but he stepped down from that role in 2016. Prior to launching ZopNow, Singh had worked at Amazon. He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur.

ZopNow is currently headed by Raj Pandey, who is the CEO of the company. Raj focuses on the business side, as he has extensive experience in the field of investment banking. Earlier, he had worked at JP Morgan for 9 years and at Deloitte Consulting for 5 years.
