12 Maoists killed in major anti-Maoist operation launched by CRPF in Sukma

In a major offensive against Maoists, the CRPF and Chhattisgarh Police have eliminated 12 Maoists in Sukma district in Chhattisgarh. It has been reported that three jawans have also lost their lives during the battle. The operation was named ‘Prahar’ and it was a determined effort by security forces to break the network of Maoists in the area. The operation was focused in forests of Tondamarka, which is considered as a stronghold of Maoists in Sukma district. It may be recalled that a Maoist attack in April this year had resulted in the deaths of 25 security personnel, most of whom were from CRPF.

Operation Prahar witnessed the involvement of more than 1,500 security personnel. Speaking about operation Prahar, DM Awasthi said that around 12 Maoists have been killed in the operation. However, he said that all bodies could not be recovered due to heavy firing. One of the Maoists who died was a senior operative named Korsa Mahesh. He would often disguise himself as a police officer to carry out Maoist activities. Security forces have recovered a self-loading rifle from his possession.
