16 Amarnath pilgrims killed, as bus falls into ravine

First it was the terror attack and now a bus accident has killed 16 Amarnath pilgrims. 30 people have also been injured in the unfortunate accident. The incident occurred when the bus carrying the pilgrims skidded off the road. It then overturned and fell into a deep ravine at Nachlana belt of Ramban in Jammu and Kashmir. A rescue mission was undertaken to help the survivors. The Jammu and Kashmir police said that deaths of 16 people have been confirmed and 19 were seriously injured in the accident. Eight people have received minor injuries in the accident.

People who were badly injured were airlifted to hospital whereas others were taken to local hospital for treatment. The route to Amarnath yatra is at a very high altitude and accidents are quite common. With thousands of pilgrims visiting Amarnath, the risk of such accidents is always high. Meanwhile, one of the women who was injured in the July 10 terror attack has succumbed to her injuries. This takes the total number of deaths arising of the terror attack to eight.
