American TV anchor eats human skull in Varanasi; creates huge controversy on social media

In what is being considered as yet another attempt to show India’s diversity in a bad light, a new television series “Believer with Reza Aslan’ shows the anchor Reza Aslan interacting with Aghori sadhus and eating parts of cooked human skull. The television serial was launched by leading American news channel CNN. The instance of Aslan eating human skull is being heavily criticized by Hindus in America and India and in other parts of the world. The serial had earlier called Varanasi ‘the city of the dead’, which was also criticized by many Indians. In a tweet, the only Hindu in the American Congress Tulsi Gabbard said, “I am very disturbed that CNN is using its power and influence to increase people’s misunderstanding and fear of Hinduism.”

Reza Aslan has his roots in Iran and he got the chance to spend some time with Aghoris when he was working on the project to unravel the mysteries surrounding the Aghori sect in India. Aslan said that after he tasted the cooked human skull, he was offered a drink, which tasted like liquor. Aslan has also updated his Facebook page, where he commented on the taste of the cooked human skull. He said that the human skull tastes like charcoal and it has to be cooked to make it crisp. Even when there have been widespread protests against the serial, Aslan has not yet issued any apology.
