Hundreds of shoppers took their kids along to see Des Clarke present the special event and perform the Christmas Light Switch together with Peter Pan cast members Scott Fletcher from River City (Peter Pan) and Joanne McGuiness (Wendy).

And there was a special performance by local teenager Emily Middlemas, who just missed out on the Live Finals of this year’s X Factor.

Santa himself made his grand entrance in the mall to open his grotto, with visitors to the grotto choosing whether to get a Christmas present, a photo or both. Santa with his little helpers in attendance will be there every FridaySaturday and Sunday until Christmas – and even on Monday 22nd,Tuesday 23rd and Christmas Eve itself!

Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager at The Avenue, said: “Our Christmas lights switch-on ceremony this year was undoubtedly our most successful yet! We had lots of fun and games, competitions and giveaways and not only was our balloon modeller present, but mall mascots Newton and Fearn got into the Christmas pantomime spirit by dressing up as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell!”

The Avenue Shopping Centre offers shoppers a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
