In its attempt to promote a culture of organ donation at grassroots level, an awareness programme was launched in Mathura by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment RamdasAthawale on August 9, 2019.
With the vision to reach over a million people within two years, the initiative, led by Nayati Healthcare, aims at raising awareness among people about the great significance of saving lives by pledging organs.
“The programme aims to reach out to over a million people at the grassroots level in a period of two years,” the hospital said in a statement.
Chairperson of Nayati Healthcare,NiiraRadia talked about the graveness of the situation especially in the western parts of UP where thousands of people battle with chronic organ diseases. While many lives are being lost due to the need of organs, there are many who are unaware of the enormity of their conditions.
NiiraRadia further stated that a heart and lung transplant programme will be launched soon by this facility. The hospital is notable for its healthcare services not only in Western Uttar Pradesh but also the North India.
Athawale, at the programme’s launch said, “I am happy to be part of the Nayati Organ Donation(NOD) programme. I am sure through the initiative, they will reach out to people across different sections of the society, educate and empower them to participate in the noble cause and thus strengthen the nation.”
Also present at the programme were members of the Rotary Club and Organ Donation India Foundation.
NiiraRadia claimed that India is witnessing a huge disparity between the number of transplants awaited and the organs available. And the intention behind the initiative is to change the perception of people and cultivate the culture of organ donation among them.
