Five-time Bouldering World Champion Kilian Fischhuber and Indian Climber Tuhin Satarkar are back in Badami, for the third edition of Red Bull Indian Odyssey
Badami, 20th January, 2015: World renowned bouldering champion and Red Bull athlete Kilian Fischhuber, along with Pune-based climber Tuhin Satarkar, is back in Badami, Karnataka, for the third edition of Red Bull Indian Odyssey. The two boulderers are on their way to scaling new heights and uncharted territory in the treacherous terrain of Badami, with the aim of opening up one of conquering one of the toughest climbing routes in India.
“I’m glad to be back for Red Bull Indian Odyssey III. The route we aim for is one of the toughest routes. Both Tuhin and I have spent the last few days clearing the route of the bee hives and now we’re ready to take up the challenge,” said Kilian Fischhuber.
Taking forward from the first edition of Red Bull Indian Odyssey in 2013 (when Tuhin trained under Kilian in Italy), in Red Bull Indian Odyssey II (2014), Kilian and Tuhin climbed Ganesh and Samsara, graded 8a, and were successful in bolting new routes in Badami, India’s toughest climbing terrain. In this gravity-defying adventure, the duo opened up three new routes in the Temple Area of Badami – these new routes are 20m high and fall under grade 7d, 7c. Fischhuber and Satarkar have interestingly christened the two routes ‘The Fridge’ and ‘Squid World’ respectively. Together they are yet to name the third route. As a part of the same excursion, the duo also finished three more routes in Hampi (Middle Way, Literal Cobra and Crystal Ball). However, the first edition of Red Bull Indian Odyssey took place in Italy where Tuhin while the first edition of the project took place in Italy when Tuhin trained under Kilian in 2013.
The daredevils are very excited to be back at India’s toughest bouldering destination and aim to finish their expedition over the next two weeks.
