At the anti-BJP rally organized in Patna today, tall claims were made about creating a new ‘Grand Alliance’ that will take on the might of rising BJP. There were many voices that spoke at the rally, but the loudest voice was that of Sharad Yadav. It may be recalled that Sharad Yadav was warned about participating in the anti-BJP rally by JD(U), but he has ignored the warnings. This clearly shows that Sharad Yadav may have finally decided to join the forces that are currently aligning with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. However, anti-BJP forces are already losing steam, something that was evident at the rally by the absence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also did not attend the rally. This clearly shows that the anti-BJP alliance is already breaking apart even before it was formed.
However, the obvious signs did not dissuade Sharad Yadav from targeting BJP. The other politicians present at the rally were West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. Most of the leaders present at the rally had one thing in common – they have all been affected by the BJP’s success in one way or other. The rally’s slogan “BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao” aptly describes the mood of the leaders who participated in the anti-BJP rally.
