Dalit family attacked by Brahmin man for being ‘touched’

When the country is boiling on the issue of nationalism and anti-nationalism, a dalit family has alleged of being attacked by a group of men for touching a Brahmin man in Uttar Pradesh’s Pinhat area on Friday.

According to Vineeta, a victim of alleged caste attack and a resident of Kyuri village under Pinhat police station jurisdiction said, “My youngest son Sonu was brutally thrashed after he accidently touched the hands of a sweet shop owner, Anil Sharma while making payments on Friday afternoon.”

“Sharma is a Brahmin by caste while we are Valmiki. On enquiring my son told me that Sharma after being touched accidentally got infuriated and attacked him. To mark a protest of the incident I along with few women went to his shop and asked reasons for his brutal act,” she added.

“Later in the day Sharma along with few goons from his community raided our home and attacked everyone present in the house including a relative who is pregnant. Due to the attack she suffered complications and we had to rush her to hospital,” claimed Vineeta.

According to family members Rekha — the pregnant woman, Hotilal and a minor have suffered injuries in the alleged caste attack.

Sugreev Singh Chauhan, block-in-charge of the area said, “I got a call from the family while I was attending a meeting chaired by Bah MLA Raja Mahendra Arindaman Singh. I rushed to the incident site after the meeting.”

Aridaman, Samajwadi Party MLA told the media that he has directed the police to book the culprits responsible for the attack on the family.

The local police told the media that the clash took place after a person in inebriated condition attending a function at the victim’s place picked up a fight with Sharma.

“No one has been arrested so far. We are investigating the matter,” said Satendar Singh, station officer of Pinhat police station.
