Red carpet looks at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015: DIY
Whether it is a fashion week, a high profile wedding or an awards ceremony, the Bollywood brigade in India leaves no stone unturned to sashay the most glamourous looks on the red carpet. At the recently held Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 celebrities once again strutted their most fashionable avatars. Topping the glamour quotient this season was the sizzling hot Deepika Padukone, who made three stunning appearances. The leading actress Deepika Padukone made a jaw dropping entry at each of the shows she attended, in her utmost stylish attire. We bring you some simple steps to recreate Deepika’s Red Carpet looks and glam up this summer. So stop the guess work and start working now!
The Look: Deepika glossed the red carpet at Sabyasachi’s opening show with a floral cocktail dress in the trendy marsala color. The middle parted hairdo with soft blown out waves, dark red lipstick and the high-waist leather belt gave her a boho-chic, yet sophisticated look.
Do it yourself:
Wardrobe check – Go for a free flowing column dress, keeping the accessories minimum. Floor flaring belted skirts and brightly colored floral printed kurtas can also be glammed up with sleek high waist belt.
Hair Art – Start with a volume adding spray on wet hair followed by a heat protection spray. Blow dry with using a round brush. Create soft waves by wrapping various sections loosely, towards the ends, around a curling iron. Finish off with some holding spray to keep the waves intact.
Makeup – Don’t be afraid to go bold and flaunt that sculpted pout in this shade of oxblood. Start by prepping your lips with a concealer to ensure that the lip color doesn’t bleed. Using a lip brush, line the outline of the lips using an oxblood shade and fill it in. Blot, and reapply for a long-lasting and matte finish. Keep the eyes nude and add a light flush to the cheeks using a light pink blush.
The Look: The red carpet at the Blue Runway show saw a simple yet stylish Deepika, who wore it right again with a black jumpsuit paired with black shimmered pumps. The high-waist belt worked well for her again, only this time adding a bold, modern look to her outfit.
Do it yourself:
Wardrobe check- Pair a classic black jumpsuit that compliments your body type. Throw in a bold black belt to add an edgy futuristic appeal to your outfit. Double colored black pumps with shimmer can be paired for a classic twist to your outfit.
Hair Art – To avoid frying your hair in the summer, always start with a heat protection spray. Blow dry with a paddle brush, those with flat hair can use a volume adding spray before blow drying. Back comb your hair and tie it into a neat bun, keeping all strands off your face. Finish off with some styling mousse to avoid small strands from frizzing out
Makeup – You can never go wrong with a classic winged eyeliner! Start off by applying a light-weight foundation with a glossy finish. From the corner of your eyelid, draw a thick line following the shape of your eye and create an upward flick. Use a gel eyeliner for utmost precision. Add a hit of coral on the cheeks and follow that up with nude sculpted lips
The Look: The Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale saw a grand finish on Deepika’s part too as she sizzled the red carpet in Anamika Khanna’s beautiful piece. Black flared pants, a sheer cape with a heavy neck design, smoky eyes, nude lips and heavy earrings gave her a majestic look for the evening.
Do it yourself:
Wardrobe check- A common denominator this season was the structured yet relaxed appearance some free flowing drapes. Thus, go for flared pants in solid colors and pair it up with a crop top of the same color. To add a touch of grandeur, throw in a sheer cape. Play with minimum, yet heavy earrings which standout against the sheer draperies.
Hair Art – Dab in some heat protection cream. Flat iron you hair, section by section to create a gleaming stick-straight hair. Use a fine tooth comb to create a deep side part. Tie it up in a neat low ponytail and secure with a thin band. Finish off with some holding spray.
Makeup – Experiment with this uber glamorous smoky eye that Deepika rocks to perfection! Start by using a dark shade of eye shadow all over your eyelid. Build up the intensity by reapplying. Using a blending brush, blend the shadow slightly over the eyelid and use a lighter shade right under the brow bone. Using a smaller brush, apply the dark shadow on your lower lash line and blend it out. Apply two coats of mascara to seal the look. Since the eyes are so strong, opt for a light lip color like a baby pink or coral.
With sheer draperies, floral prints, boho-Chic and sun kissed shrugs being some of the many trends that Lakmé Fashion Week brought for this summer, here’s what some of the designers had to say.
Sheer Draperies – Asmita Marwa said, “Wear Your Heart This Summer! Flirty silhouettes to beat the heat. Feminine meets Androgyny with school boy shoes and fedoras. Get this look for summer, in cotton nets and organzas. Ultra cool! Ultra glam!”
Floral Prints – Divya Sheth said, “Florals- are pleasant, soothing, feminine and awesome. It is a trend for today and forever, one thing which will be reinvented time and again with the same acceptance.”
Boho-Chic – Anjali Mehta said, “Trending for the summer is a relaxed sense of glamour reminiscent of that in the ’70s to just as easily dress up what you can dress down. Flared jumpsuits, Maxis, kaftans over swimwear, Shirt dresses styled over shorts, short biker jackets and mid length solid cover ups paired with gold slip gowns on soft as butter fabrics paired with sliders and a versatile bag would be my go-to ensembles for the summer. A smart play on print on print or paired with solids in chic silhouettes can just as easily take you from beach to brunch to a sundowner.”
