Recently conferred with the Padma Shri, Ekta Kapoor shows no signs of stopping.

While she pioneered as a fierce Indian woman producer in 1995, she has now gone all out as an entrepreneur and started with her own brand, Ek in amalgam with Roposo.

Padma Shri Ekta’s, “Ek”
“My new venture EK is my way of empowering local artisans, who are striving to preserve Indian heritage and culture through their art,” says Ekta R Kapoor. “The partnership with Roposo is very exciting, since it will ensure that the work of these local artisans reaches consumers in every corner of the country, through the technology, scale and distribution backbone of platforms such as Glance and Roposo. It will also help in amplifying the deep knowledge of wellness our country possesses, making it relevant and accessible in today’s world,” she adds.

EK’s catalogue includes home furnishings like bed lines, cushion covers, drapes and table runners, home decor products like wall art, vases, serve ware, spiritual and wellness products like dhoop burner, hamsa and evil eye jewellery, and much more.  These products will all reflect Ekta’s unique style.

Ekta Kapoor on receiving Padma Shri
“I was scared, have I done something wrong? I don’t know why the home ministry is trying to get in touch with me?” she says adding that she had not expected the award coming her way at all.

“For 5 minutes I was like, aap mujhe function mein bula rahe hain, theek hai main pochoch jaungi.” She talks about how she was pleasantly surprised when the gentleman clarified that it was Ekta who had won the title.

Ekta on Patriotism
Ekta admits that her mother was the happiest person when she received the award and also reveals how patriotic she is.

“She’s always got tears in her eyes when she hears the national anthem. All were happy but my mother was so happy.”

She believes that an honour from the country is a big responsibility. “Take ahead your company but also take ahead some social responsibility towards your country,” she concludes with a smile.
