India Celebrate ‘Argumentative’, Not ‘Intolerant’ Indian – President Pranab :  President Pranab Mukherjee strongly backed the government’s initiatives of simultaneous elections to Parliament and Assemblies and as well as demonetization. He was addressing the nation on Republic day eve. He also asked the Election Commission to plan for the simultaneous polls in consultation with political parties.

The President categorically said that India’s strength is its pluralism and diversity. He also said that India celebrate the argumentative Indian; not the intolerant Indian.

He said that “Multiple views, thoughts and philosophies have competed with each other peacefully for centuries in our country. A wise and discerning mind is necessary for democracy to flourish.”

Pranab also cautioned regarding to the disruptions in Parliament and State Assemblies. He said that India has a noisy democracy but it is required. He said that one must acknowledge the imperfections of the system and try to rectify them

He emphasized on the value of debate, discussion and decision making in the parliament and batted for less disruptions in both of the assembly houses.

President also backed the demonetization drive and said that this has slowed down the economy temporarily but increased transparency will improve the system.

He advised everyone to remember the tree of freedom and its requirement of regular care and nourishment. Thanking the youth of India, he said that they are brimming with positivity, hope and aspirations.

President also targeted to improve the food security, fight poverty, curb corruption and to provide enhanced employment opportunities to Indians as well as manage security of children and women.
