Indian Junior Men Hockey Team ready to face New Zealand in their opening match of the 4th Sultan of Johor Cup 2014 tomorrow

Johor Bahru (Malaysia), 11 October 2014After a month-long intensive training session, a young and confident Indian Junior Men Hockey Team is ready to face New Zealand in their opening match of the 4th Sultan of Johor Cup 2014 to be played at Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru on 12 October 2014.

The defending champions India, which consist mostly of new players in the team, will give their best show to start the campaign with a dominating victory against New Zealand in the U-21 international tournament. With players like Captain Harjeet Singh, Vice-Captain Imran Khan, Gurinder Singh and Jarmanpreet Singh, who have to their credit of representing the Indian Men team on the international platform, will be motivating their teammates who are participating in such a big tournament for the first time. The Indian colts have been practising together for the last one month under the guidance of Coach Harendra Singh and the 18-member team have been developed themselves as a single unit in the training sessions.

With the recent triumph of the Indian Men Hockey Team in the 17th Asian Games 2014, the Indian junior players aim to repeat the success of their Seniors in this tournament by displaying a good level of hockey. On the other hand, Junior Black Sticks will play as per their reputation of punching above their weight and try to create some upsets in the tournament. They are expert in materialising chances on the oppositions’ mistakes and that expertise can win matches for them.

Speaking ahead of the match against New Zealand, the Indian Junior Men Hockey Team’s Coach Harendra Singh said, “The Team is very much excited to play against the Junior Black Sticks in their first match. Everyone in the team is geared-up for this prestigious tournament and we are looking at an exciting contest tomorrow. We want to start our campaign with a motivating victory in our first match.”

The match between India and New Zealand will be telecasted live on Star Sports 1 at 1535 hrs IST.
