77th-session-of-indian-history-congress_f6fc073a-d558-11e6-a877-a82e4b02bda2In a first, all Kerala officers except for district collectors, submitted leave intimation letters to the state government of Kerala in order to register their protest against the Left front ruled government and the current State Vigilance Chief Jacob Thomas.

Jacob Thomas has decided to charge the additional Chief Secretary for Industry, Paul Antony in a case of neportism that involves former Minister E P Jayarajan. The IAS officers shall be on leave today. The decision was taken at a meeting attended by senior bureaucrats on Saturday, where they requested all Kerala IAS officers to take leave on Monday to show solidarity with their colleague who has been wrongly accused by the State Vigilance Director. They wished to show their frustration and dissatisfaction with the high handed behaviour and the abuse of his powers by Jacob Thomas.

The IAS officers believed that it is Mr. Thomas’ integrity which is questionable and not that of the bureaucrats. Mr Thomas has been involved in a land encroachment case in Karnataka and has also been involved in a case while he was the Director of Ports. They believe that Jacob Thomas was being vengeful and was misusing his powers and the Government was doing nothing to rein him in.

They plan to meet Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday. Mr. Thomas, a senior IPS officer was appointed by CM Vijayan. Mr. Thomas has had a lot of disagreements with many senior bureaucrats as the latter believed he was wrong to judge their conduct in a certain manner. The bureaucrats have complained about his behaviour to the Government on many occassions, but it has not yielded any results.
