Newspatrolling: In a significant development that could see a change of government in Nagaland, the state’s Governor PB Acharya has asked the current Chief Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu to prove majority by July 15. With this order, Shurhozelie Liezietsu will have to prove his strength in the state assembly on or before July 15. He will have to obtain a vote of confidence on the floor of the state assembly. Governor Acharya’s order comes in the wake of the recent action taken by former chief minister Zeliang, wherein he had staked claim to form the government in Nagaland. Zeliang had said that he had the support of 41 MLAs in the 60-member state assembly.
Zeliang supporters have welcomed the decision taken by Governor Acharya and they are confident that Zeliang would be able to establish a new government in Nagaland. A legislator in Zeliang’s camp said that Shurhozelie has been holding on to the CM’s office even when he has lost the majority support. He said that Shurhozelie will have to resign even before the date finalized to prove majority on the floor. It may be recalled that Zeliang has already submitted the list of 41 MLAs who are supporting him.
