Narayan Rane launches new political party; likely to support NDA government

After playing the guessing game for quite some time, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane today launched his own political party. The new political party has been named as the Maharashtra Swabhiman Party. There have been quite a few speculations since the time Rane had quit the Congress last week. Rane had said that the Congress failed to keep their promise of making him the chief minister, which is why he quit the party. After he quit, there were speculations that he will join the BJP. However, certain sections in BJP were opposed to Rane’s joining the party, which is why he has launched his own party. Earlier, Rane had met senior BJP leaders including Amit Shah to discuss his future course of action.

Prior to being with the Congress, Rane was with the Shiv Sena. It was during his tenure with the Shiv Sena that he had become the Chief Minister for Maharashtra. During the launch of his new political party, Rane said that his party will be focused on the development of the state of Maharashtra. He said that after the party if fully functional, he will take the decision whether or not to join the NDA government. Political pundits expect that Rane will join the NDA government since it will allow him to target the Shiv Sena. Currently, only Rane holds the power to take on Shiv Sena, which is why NDA would like to offer him a role in the current government.
