On Women’s Day, PM Modi and President talk about gender equality

On Women’s Day, President Pranab Mukherjee today talked about the invaluable contributions of women towards the development of the country. He also requested people to support the cause of gender equality. In a Twitter post, Mukherjee said, “Warm greetings & best wishes to women in India & in all parts of the world on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Generations of Indian women have made an invaluable contribution to the development and progress of our country.” “On this day, I call upon people of India to reaffirm their commitment to gender equality & true empowerment of women”.

Prime Minister Narerdra Modi also appreciated the courage and determination of women. On his micro-blogging site PM Modi wrote, “Saluting the indomitable spirit, determination and dedication of Nari Shakti on International Women’s Day.” PM Modi also said that humanity’s progress would be complete only when its women are empowered. He reasoned that the focus should be on women-led development, rather than just on women development.

PM Modi also talked about the various initiatives that the government has undertaken to empower the women in the country. “Government of India’s various initiatives seek to facilitate economic empowerment, self-reliance & social equality as far as Nari Shakti is concerned,” said Modi.
