Over 50 dead, more than 400 hurt in worst shooting in US

In one of the worst shooting incidents in the United States, more than 50 people are reported to be dead and around 400 injured. The shooting occurred when people were enjoying an outdoor country music festival. The gunman was firing from inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, which is located across the street. The gunman was located at the 32nd floor of the hotel and due to this, security agencies took some time to figure out what was happening. Later, SWAT teams were sent to the hotel and the shooter has been neutralized. Initially, everyone was thinking that this was a terrorist attack, but now it has become clear that the shooter was a local person. He has been identified as 64-year old Stephen Paddock. A woman named Marilou Danley was also said to be staying with the shooter, but she may not be directly involved in the shooting.

It is not yet clear what prompted the 64-year old man to take such a drastic step. There were more than 20,000 people at the outdoor event when the shooter started firing at them. People panicked and they ran for cover, which resulted in stampede causing further deaths and injuries as people trampled one another. The police officials have recovered a number of firearms from the hotel room where he was staying. Eyewitnesses said that they were horrified to see what was happening. They said that shots were being fired quite fast and bullets were falling on them like rain. People were dropping dead around them. The incident yet again spurs the debate related to gun licensing in the United States.
