PM Modi unveils Lord Shiva’s 112-foot tall statue in Coimbatore

On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, PM Modi today unveiled a 112-foot tall statue of Lord Shiva in Coimbatore. The statue has been constructed at the premises of Isha Foundation and is dedicated to Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, the founder of the organization. The unveiling of Shiva’s statue was carried out under tight security, as there were protests from tribal groups and political parties. The protestors alleged that the land on which the statue has been constructed is encroached land. However, the authenticity of this claim could not be verified.

PM Modi also gave a speech while unveiling the statue. He said, “’Maha Shivratri symbolizes a union of divinity with a purpose of overcoming darkness and injustice”. He added, “India has given the gift of Yoga to the world and by practicing Yoga, a spirit of oneness is created. Today whole world wants peace, not only from wars and conflicts but peace from stress, and for that we have Yoga. Rejecting an idea just because it’s ancient can be potentially harmful.”

Sadhguru Vasudev also spoke on the occasion and said, “For the first time in the history of humanity, Adiyogi introduced the idea that the simple laws of nature are not permanent restrictions. If one is willing to strive, one can go beyond all limitations and attain liberation, moving humanity from assumed stagnation to conscious evolution.”
