Protests against Jallikattu ban turn violent in Tamil Nadu

Protestors protesting the Jallikattu ban in Chennai became violent as the Tamil Nadu police started evicting them. 15 protestors who were upset about getting evicted set the Ice House Police Station in Chennai on fire. There were more than a dozen bikes parked outside the Police Station that also caught fire and were burnt down in the process. The protestors also resorted to stone pelting that resulted in about 20 policemen getting injured.

The Police detained 10 teenagers who were said to be school or college going children for the violence. They were standing on the MRTS tracks and were throwing stones on the personnel below for more than an hour. Protestors threw petrol bombs at the Presidency college in Chennai. There were clashes between the protestors and policemen as the police was lathicharging protestors.

Protestors were throwing stones at MTC and other public transport buses. Many commuters were injured due to this. Protestors that all their protests were so far peaceful, there was not a single case of violence, so why did the police start using force?
