Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today said that there are no plans to break the alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) even when multiple corruption cases have been lodged against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members including his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav. Congress party MLAs in Bihar had voiced their concerns that the corruption cases against Lalu and his family members would dent their image in the public. The Congress MLAs in Bihar had a long meeting with Rahul Gandhi, explaining him in detail the potential consequences of continuing the alliance with RJD. However, Rahul Gandhi was in no mood to listen, which clearly shows that he does not mind supporting people who are facing serious corruption cases. It shows that Congress is hungry for power and would hold on to it even if it means supporting people with corruption cases.
The Congress has 27 MLAs in Bihar and Rahul has met around 22 of them. Most MLAs have warned Rahul that continuing with Lalu can harm the party’s image. They explained that Lalu is no longer the popular leader among non-Yadav backward castes and his M-Y (Muslim-Yadav) formula is also failing. They further said that Nitish Kumar has already become the people’s hero by joining the fight against corruption and if Congress continues with RJD, it could lose its strength in the forthcoming elections. However, Rahul simply refused to listen. It appears that Rahul Gandhi either did not understand or does not have the power to take such decisions.
