Rajouri bus accident report of 40 children dying was a rumor, say top officials

After some media reports indicated that around 40 school children were feared dead when a bus fell into a deep gorge in Rajouri district of Jammu, officials have issued a clarification that the reports were incorrect. It was reported that the bus fell into the gorge after its driver lost control of the vehicle. It was also reported that the school children were going on a picnic from Manjakot to Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road that connects Rajouri with Shopian district in the Kashmir Valley. It was further reported that the chances of survival were rare since the bus had fallen into a deep gorge that was at least 150 feet deep.

However, the entire report has now been dismissed as a rumor by senior officials in Jammu. IAS officer Shahid Chaudhary posted a tweet that said that the bus has returned safely. “News about bus accident leaving 40 children dead is false. The reported bus has returned safely,” the tweet read. Officials also clarified that no such accident had taken place. Authorities are currently investigating the source of the rumor and appropriate action will be taken against the rumor-mongers.
