HYDERABAD: 19TH January 2015: A day long workshop was organized to present newly developed market driven course curriculum in the area of Seed Science & Technology under USIEF funded Obama-Singh Initiative on 19 January, 2015 in New Delhi. The event witnessed active participation of faculty members from OSI partner Institutions University of Agricultural Sciences- Dharwad (UASD) and Sardar Vallabhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUAT), apart from implementing partners Cornell University and Sathguru Management Consultants. The workshop also saw the attendance from public and private institutions like NSAI, UPCAR, Mahyco and Rasi seeds.
The workshop provided a great platform to present newly developed market driven course curriculum in the area of Seed Science & Technology, and to deliberate on modules developed in the areas of food science, nanotechnology and gender. Many discussions were made on ways to replicate these courses at other State Agricultural Universities. During the workshop, faculty from both partner institutions gained a perspective from private sector on the skill sets that are expected from the students. The participants also discussed on various elements such as existing gaps & challenges in revamping agricultural curriculums; need for vocational and diploma courses in agricultural education; gender improvement in agriculture education and use of IT tools to improve the teaching & course delivery. “OSI has provided us an excellent opportunity to visit Cornell University and interact with seasoned faculty and this visit helped us in understanding their curriculum structure in Seed science and Technology. This helped us in developing curriculum for the new integrated master’s degree in Seed science and Technology at UAS Dharwad”, said Dr. Biradarpatil, HoD, Seed Science and Technology, UAS-Dharwad.
