Shankersinh Vaghela denies launching new political party ahead of assembly elections

Amid speculations that Shankersinh Vaghela is planning to launch his own political party, the leader today publicly said that there are no such plans. It may be recalled that Shankersinh Vaghela was earlier a top Congress leader in Gujarat. And before he joined Congress in the 1990s, he was with BJP. Recently, he had resigned from the Congress party, but since then he has kept everyone guessing about his future political plans. There were speculations that he might join BJP again, but this also has been denied by Shankersinh Vaghela. His next steps have become crucial since the assembly elections in Gujarat are to be conducted soon. The BJP wants to register a landslide victory in Gujarat, as a payback to Congress leader Ahmad Patel, who just managed to get elected to the Rajya Sabha. The BJP was quite close to defeating Ahmad Patel, but he managed to get elected by securing 44 votes, the minimum required to get elected.

Sources said that Ahmad Patel’s winning the Rajya Sabha seat has dealt a blow to BJP president Amit Shah. Sources said that Amit Shah may be looking for a payback, something that could be achieved by reducing the number of Congress wins in the forthcoming Gujarat assembly elections. Already, Amit Shah has announced that he is targeting to reduce the Congress’ count in the assembly elections to half. Vaghela’s support may be crucial in achieving that target.
