Security forces in Jammu & Kashmir have achieved yet another major success in their fight against terrorism after a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed in Anantnag district today. After the terrorists were cornered, they put up a fierce resistance that lasted several hours. However, in the end, the security forces prevailed and two terrorists were killed including the top LeT militant. The top militant killed has been identified as Bashir Lashkari. The standoff took place in Dailgam village and the fight started after security forces cordoned the area and started search operations. The security forces had prior information that some militants were active in the area.
The police were searching for Bashir Lashkari for a long time and he was among the most-wanted list of terrorists. One of the most heinous crimes of Lashkari was that he was involved in the killing of 6 policemen including SHO Feroz Ahmed. These policemen were killed on June 16. In the encounter that took place today, the terrorists were using civilians as human shield to protect themselves. Security forces rescued 17 civilians today before eliminating the terrorists.
