US Asks Countries To Punish UN Troops For Sexual Abuse

After the shocking revelation of UN Peacekeepers’ sexual abuse and misconducts at their UN Peace Mission by Associated Press and its worldwide media coverage, the U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley has urged for accountability for such actions.

She urged all countries, that are part of the UN Peace Keeping Missions which send troops to other nations, to hold the soldiers accountable for their misconduct and sexual abuses.

This appeal by Nikki Haley has come after a widespread outrage against the UN Peacekeepers were allegedly found running a child sex ring in Haiti involving Sri Lankan peacekeepers.

She strongly warned the countries that if they refuse to hold their soldiers accountable, there will be consequences such as their financial compensation will end.

Former UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon also spoke on the issue and suggested that court martial could be the way forward for such soldiers involved in the crimes.
