Across the globe, condoms have emerged as the preferred choice of contraception as well as prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Condoms have a long history dating back to several centuries, even though modern latex based condoms were produced not before the twentieth century. Condoms are preferred owing to their distinct advantages such as affordable cost, easy to carry and use, and high reliability. United States – The US condom market is currently estimated to be valued at around USD 1 billion. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 11%, to reach USD 1.52 billion by 2023. Most of the US condom market is dominated by male condom, which accounts for nearly 98% of overall sales. Along with standard condom sales, the US market also leads in innovations in this space such as custom sized condoms, climax delaying lubricants, and non-latex condoms.

United Kingdom – In Europe, UK is the largest consumer of condoms. However, there’s scope for more growth in UK condom market, as many people, especially youngster still do not use condoms. In a recent survey, it was reported that just around one-fourth of UK residents had used a condom the last time they had sex. Talking about recent trends, condom sales in UK are on the rise after a brief fall experienced during the lockdown period.

Japan – One of the leading consumers of condoms in Asia Pacific, Japan has several brands to offer to consumers. According to a research study, around 80 percent of married people in Japan use condoms as a means of contraception. Japan is also known for its innovation in this space such as non-latex (aka ultra-thin) condoms.

China – With a population of around 1.40 billion and more than 900 million sexually active people, China is among the biggest consumers of condoms in the world. In 2018, the country had consumed more than 13 billion condoms. China also exports a significant percentage of the condoms it produces every year.

India – With increasing awareness, the condom market is growing at a fast pace in India. By 2027, the condom market in India is expected to cross USD 500 million. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 12%. Latex condoms are preferred in the country, as they are much cheaper than other modern products.

Condom use is expected to increase over the next decade, propelled by growing awareness about its benefits. Owing largely to its huge population, Asia Pacific will continue to be the biggest market for condoms. Other large markets include North America, Europe, and Latin America. As of now, the global condom market is estimated to be valued at around USD 9.2 billion. By 2026, that figure is expected to increase to USD 15.1 billion. Over the next 5-6 years, the global condom market is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 8.5%.
