WHO’s International Health Regulations Emergency Committee on Wild Poliovirus convenes for fourth time

WHAT: Fourth meeting of the International Health Regulations (IHR) Emergency Committee ( EC) on the International Spread of Wild Poliovirus convened by the WHO Director-General.
On Tuesday, 17 February 2015, the World Health Organisation (WHO) will convene the fourth Emergency Committee (EC) concerning the international spread of the wild poliovirus under the International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005). The objectives of this meeting include:

  • review the international spread of wild poliovirus since the 3rd EC meeting, the steps taken by affected countries to implement the Temporary Recommendations, and steps by partner agencies in support of affected countries;
  • provide views to the Director-General on the current risk of international spread of polio and recommendations on measures to mitigate risk, as well as the future of the EC and temporary recommendations.

A WHO statement giving an account of the consultation and its conclusions will be posted on the WHO public website and sent to the media.
